Graduation Attire

The Graduation Ceremony presents the Class of 2022 to the parents, faculty, invited guests, and the Clovis West community.  The Graduation Ceremony is a celebration of our student’s scholastic achievement.

With this in mind, the following must be adhered to:
1.    Students must wear semi-formal attire/formal attire.  This includes suit and tie, slacks with shirt and tie, dresses, dress pants/skirt with blouse, etc.
2.    Students must wear dress shoes.  No athletic or tennis shoes, Birkenstocks, sandals, crocks or combat boots.  We recommend low wedged shoes and no heels.
3.    All dresses/tops must have at least 2” shoulder straps.  Long dresses are permitted but must be pinned up so they do not fall below the hem line of the graduation gown. All clothing must meet CUSD Dress Code regulations.
4.    A collar will accompany graduation gowns for females.
5.    Caps will be worn flat on the head with the point aimed straight ahead.
6.    Tassels will be worn on the left side of the cap.
7.    The only acceptable accessories to the standard cap and gown are the CSF Life Gold Cord, National Honor Society Sash, Principals Medallion and the Academic Distinction pin or CSF pin. Requests for any other accessory must be submitted to the Deputy Principal at least two weeks prior to the graduation ceremony. The Deputy Principal will notify the student whether or not the item is approved prior to the graduation ceremony.

Letter to Parents of Graduating Seniors

May 6, 2022

To the Parents of Graduating Seniors:

The day of graduation for the Class of 2022 is quickly approaching. June 2, 2022 is not only important to the graduates, but also to the many families involved, the surrounding community, and the Clovis Unified School District.

The graduation ceremony for the Class of 2022 will be at Golden Eagle Field located at Veterans Memorial Stadium (BEC). The event will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. If you have ever attended the commencement ceremony for a Clovis Unified high school, you will understand that the Clovis West Graduation Ceremony is an “event” with a great deal of decorum to honor the achievements of the graduating class and its members. Graduation is certainly an exciting time for our seniors, but also it is a time for the C.U.S.D. Governing Board to ceremoniously honor the graduates and teaching staff. As such, it would be extremely helpful if you would emphasize with your graduate, as we will, the importance of appropriate behavior and not distracting others from the ceremony or drawing undue attention away from another graduate’s moment of recognition. As a part of this, we would also request that our graduates’ families and friends not bring balloons, signs, air horns, whistles, and other noisemakers into the stadium.

Proper attire for graduates at graduation is outlined on the Clovis West website and listed on “permission click” which is an online agreement contract that must be submitted before your graduate can participate in the ceremony. Students who do not follow these guidelines will not be allowed to participate in graduation. We do not want any senior to miss their graduation because they did not follow these District mandates. A few guidelines that may assist you in planning for your graduate’s attire are included below:

(1)
Dresses must have straps that are 2” or greater.

(2)
Dress shoes are mandatory and should be comfortable enough to walk some distance, downstairs, and across grass.

(3)
Students are only allowed to bring cap, gown, and car keys into Building 100 the night of graduation. No extra items (including wallets, purses, or cell phones) will be permitted. All students will be searched before entering the building.

(4)
Students must adhere to all other CUSD dress code standards.

Additionally, it is very important that graduates arrive on time, in dress code, in possession of their I. D. card and attend ALL FIVE rehearsals for the graduation ceremony. There is a limited amount of time to practice for these culminating activities, and it would be unfair for others to wait due to the negligence of a few. The ceremony has a multitude of components, and it is very important that everyone knows their cues and designated roles so that all will go smoothly. When a graduate arrives late or misses any practices unjustifiably, they will be subject to removal from the ceremony.

Our last graduation practice will be held at Golden Eagle Field on June 2nd at 7:30 a.m. Students are responsible for their own transportation to the stadium. It is highly suggested that they carpool if possible. Parking will be available in the lot off Nees Avenue just west of the stadium. If your student is providing their own transportation, please help us remind them to allow plenty of time to arrive by 7:30 a.m. and to drive safely.

Sincerely,

Jason James
Deputy Principal, Clovis West High School
