Principals Message

On behalf of the Clovis West High School staff I’d like to welcome everyone to the 2016-2017 school year.  We have a tremendous amount of results to celebrate.  During this past summer, and over the course of the school year, we have experienced some facility improvements.  The exterior of our campus received a new paint job.

We have many accomplishments to be proud of at Clovis West.  The 15-16 school year proved to be one of athletic success as Clovis West won 8 league and 6 CIF championships. Academically, our History Day, math and science teams continued to win competitions at the local, state, and national levels, and our AP classes continue to have the highest pass rates.  This past graduating class was offered $11.5 million in college scholarships, setting a new mark for Clovis West.

All of these accolades are not possible without the teamwork and commitment to excellence from all of our CW stakeholders.  Our parents, students, staff and community are, and have been dedicated, to holding Clovis West High School to a higher standard of expectations, and we will continue that charge moving forward.

At Clovis West High School we strive to be the best by setting goals and challenging our students to attain the highest possible level of achievement.  Our mission is to Maximize the Academic and Individual Achievement of ALL students.  The Clovis West staff meets regularly as Professional Learning Teams to ask and respond to four questions:  1.What do we want our students to learn? 2. How will we know they have learned it? 3. How will we respond if learning did not take place? 4. How will we respond when learning has already occurred?  Additionally, the staff has the following agreed upon commitments:

  • We AGREE that each student will learn and demonstrate a minimum of 70% proficiency on essential assessments.  We will provide the appropriate learning conditions with the necessary support for each student to reach this goal.
  • We AGREE that each student will be able to demonstrate content proficiency in each subject area through writing.
  • We AGREE to communicate with students and parents in a timely and meaningful manner concerning student progress. At a minimum, this communication will take the form of Zangle updates every two weeks.

We AGREE to create a culture that celebrates student academic success.

In Clovis Unified we believe in high standards.  We believe that children should be challenged in three specific areas.  We believe that children should be the best they can be in Mind, Body, and Spirit.  Please challenge your child to participate in at least one co-curricular activity each year at Clovis West High School.  Engagement in school activities provides opportunity to challenge one in each of the three areas.

Again, welcome to the 2016-2017 school year.  I look forward to a productive and positive school year.
